He tries to run off but gets caught by leash cord. Jess picks him up and walks with him, in her arms, to the front door.

Jess knocks on the front door. The door opens.

The door opens and Cara lets in the dog.

Gabby is on the couch watching television.

Cara is on her phone.

Meanwhile, Max walks up to a low-sitting window and glares outside.

Cara and Gabby start to argue in the background.

Cara
Turn it back!

You’re not even paying attention!

Cara throws a pillow at Gabby

Gabby stares at Cara, slowly raises her arm, and changes the channel. Meanwhile, Max sits alone at the window and looks outside.

ESTABLISHING SHOT – HOUSE

Int. Bedroom – Early Morning
Gabby is sleeping in bed while Max lies at her feet. Cara comes into the room and nudges Gabby to wake her up.

CU- GABBY
Cara
Gabby… Gabby… I’m going out.

Gabby slowly turns her head

MCU- GABBY
Gabby
You’re not supposed to go anywhere.

CLOSE UP - CARA
Cara
I’m just going out for a little while. Mom and dad won’t be back until tonight, and they wont know if you keep your mouth shut.

MEDIUM CLOSE UP - GABBY
Watch the dog for me, and walk him.

Gabby
But you’re…

MEDIUM CLOSE UP
Cara leaves the room and quickly shuts Gabby’s door.

Gabby
…grounded.

MCU - GABBY
Gabby drops her head back into her pillow and falls asleep. Max jumps down to follow Cara.

WIDE SHOT - CARA IN HALLWAY
Int. Hallway
Cara walks out the front door, closing it in Max’s face.

WIDE SHOT – GABBY’S ROOM
Int. Gabby’s Room
Max enters the room and jumps back onto the bed.
MEDIUM CLOSE UP
He starts tugging and clawing at Gabby’s arm. Gabby turns over and looks at him. He stares at her with eagerly.

Gabby
What?

CLOSE UP - MAX
He tuggs again

Gabby
You gotta go outside or somethin?

Max starts jumping in excitement.

WIDE SHOT – GABBY’S ROOM
Gabby rolls out of bed. (ANNOYED SIGH)

WIDE SHOT- HALLWAY
Int. Hallway
Gabby grabs the dog leash and opens the front door. Max quickly bolts out the door
POV – GABBY’S PERSPECTIVE
and then across the yard.

She runs after him, but quickly loses sight.

She stops at the end of the street, out of breath and worried.

No, no, no!

FADE TO BLACK  - SOUND OF FRONT DOOR OPENING

Cara walks through the door. Gabby runs up to her quickly.
      
Gabby
What took you so long?

Cara
I wasn’t even that long.

Putting her bags down, Cara starts walking toward the kitchen and Gabby follows.

              Gabby
              Listen um…

Cara
Is there food or did you eat everything as usual. (opening the fridge)

Gabby
Max is gone.

Cara slowly shuts the refrigerator door without turning to look at Gabby.
Cara
(breathes deeply in) What did you do?

Gabby
Nothing!

Cara
Gabby, I wasn’t supposed to have that dog here in the first place! What did you do?

Gabby
He took off!

OVER THE SHOULDER- GABBY
It wasn’t my fault…

Yeah… it is. How did that happen?

The two girls exit their house through the front door and proceed to walk.
Cara
I can’t believe you did this.

Gabby
I was helping you out, like you said to.

OVER THE SHOULDER - CARA
Cara
Well you didn’t! And now I’m probably not even getting paid.

Gabby
Wait…
CLOSE UP
you were getting paid? And you weren’t gonna tell me, huh?

TWO-SHOT
Cara
That doesn’t matter now. We’ll both be in trouble if that dog doesn’t show up soon.

Gabby follows Cara as they walk down the street calling the dog’s name.
They look underneath and around object after object.  

Ext. Street - Meanwhile
Max approaches the home of his friend, and scratches on the door. A small black dog comes out very excited. They proceed to walk around outside together. Next, come to a more dangerous looking area and pass by a man walking a Pit Bull. The Dog snaps and barks at them. Max and his friend take off running, but his friend is much faster and runs home leaving Max behind.

WIDE SHOT - STREET
Ext. Street – Later
The girls walk and continue to look around. Cara’s cell phone rings. Cara pulls her phone from her pocket. Jess is calling.

EXTREME CLOSE UP - PHONE
Cara
Crap…

She allows the phone to ring and doesn’t answer.

OVER THE SHOULDER - GABBY
Gabby
Who was that?

OVER THE SHOULDER- CARA
Cara
Jess

Gabby
Aren’t you gonna tell her?

Cara
No, he’ll show up and she never has to know…

MEDIDUM SHOT - GABBY
Gabby
He hasn’t yet…

Cara
Shut up and keep looking.

Cara’s phone rings again, and Cara stops walking.

Cara
Gabby, I need you to do something… Make a bunch of noise like you’re playing with the dog.

Gabby
(sarcastically) Oh… you want my help again? I think I might mess this one up too, so umm… no. 

MEDIUM SHOT
Cara
Fine, what do you want?

Gabby
If he shows up,

I want everything Jess was going to pay you. I mean, I did do all of the dog-watching.

TWO SHOT
Cara
Oh no, no way! You lost him!

Gabby
Well have fun explaining this to mom, dad, and Jess.

you were the one in charge, and you left your little sister at home alone with somebody else’s dog, while you were grounded. Good luck with that…

Gabby smiles and starts to walk off. Cara stands there contemplating.

Fine! You can have it… Can you just help me? Please?

OVER THE SHOULDER – WIDE SHOT - GABBY
With a pleased smile, Gabby nods her head and Cara answers the phone.

Cara
Jess! What’s up?

CLOSE UP - JESS IN HER CAR
Jess
Hey, how’s my baby?
             
              CLOSE UP - CARA
Cara
He’s great! Gabby and I are playing with him now.

WIDE SHOT - JESS AND GABBY
Cara holds the phone out toward Gabby while she makes dog sounds.


CLOSE UP - JESS IN HER CAR
Jess
Great! Sounds like he’s having a blast. Buy hey, just a heads up, I’ll be back a little sooner than I planned…

Cara
How soon?

Jess
Umm… I should be back in about two hours.
CLOSE UP- PHONE ON EAR- PAN – DOWN AS PHONE DROPS
Cara slowly drops the phone from her ear.

CLOSE UP - CARA
Cara
We gotta find him… Now!

VERY WIDE SHOT – GABBY AND CARA
They both take off running yelling Max’s name in all directions.

Ext: City Street   
Max walks alone through neighborhood streets. A car rounds a corner honks its horn, and the headlights glare into his face. He gets frightened and runs away. Everything outside is then calm and quiets. He continues to walk and looks around until he finally approaches the girls’ home.

Ext: Neighborhood Street
TWO SHOT - CLOSE UP
Cara
Meet me back at the house. I’ll go this way, and you take the other way around. Check everything!

Gabby nods her head in agreement and they split up.

Montage: the girls search and call Max’s inside and around multiple random objects: garbage can, mail box, windows.

Gabby arrives home first and spots Max sitting in front of the front door. He is filthy and smiling. She breathes a sigh of relief and hurries to grab him.

Int. Home Hallway
WIDE SHOT – ABOVE ANGLE
Cara walks through the front door with her hands on her head in frustration and
CLOSE UP
slides to the floor with her back against the wall.
Suddenly, there is a splash and a laugh coming from the upstairs bathroom and Cara quickly looks up.

Int: Bathroom
Gabby is giving Max a bath in the tub.
MEDIUM SHOT
Cara’s eyes fill with life and relief.

Cara
Where was he?


Gabby
At the front door.

Cara
Thank God!

Cara drops to her knees and begins helping Gabby with bathing Max.

Cara
So… um… This whole dog thing is our little secret right?

Gabby
(Smiling) What dog thing?


WIDE SHOT – GABBY, CARA, MAX
Int: Living Room
Gabby and Cara play with Maz on the floor. The doorbell rings. Cara gets up to open it and Jess is there.

Jess
Hey I hope he wasn’t too much trouble.

Cara:
               Here you go.

Cara hands over the dog’s bag while Gabby puts on his harness. Gabby walks the dog over to the door and gives Jess the leash.

Jess hands Cara money and leaves with Max. Gabby quickly snatches the money from Cara’s hand. From her car, she yells out

Hey do you want to watch him next week?

New Script - Lost and Found

Lost and found
Ext: City street - Day
Dog’s head pokes out of moving car window. Bright lights, large buildings, children playing, people walking pass by. Car pulls into a driveway and a Jess gets out with the dog on a leash. He tries to run off but gets caught by leash cord. Jess picks him up and walks with him, in her arms, to the front door.

Ext. Residence
Jess knocks on the front door. The door opens.

Jess
Here you go.

Jess hands over dog

Jess
All of his stuff is in here. (handing over bag). I’m running late already so I have to get going. I’ll pay you when I get back. Thanks!

Jess hurries to her car

Jess

Big revisions But I'm Happy

So my story has gone to the dogs (literally).

Premise of the new story.
Cara (16) has taken on a dog-sitting job, and she doesn't take it very seriously. She leaves the pooch with her younger sister, and that is when things go wrong.

Cara
Age 16
doesn't like her little sister.
irresponsible, superficial values

Gabby
Age 10
Loves to hang with her older sister

Max takes off on a comical adventure while Cara and Gabby panic to find him before his owner Jess returns.
He meets his doggy friends, eats weird things.
A spoiled and lazy child learns to appreciate and get along with her older sister when she loses control of a simple dog-sitting job.

Lost and Found

EXT: Neighborhood Street – Early Morning

Gabby runs frantically down the street looking in all directions. She stops at the end of the street out of breath and worried.

Gabby:
(voice over) I’m gonna be in so much trouble.

Outside Residence - Night
The Night Before…

Jess knocks on front door. Door opens.

Jess:
Here you go.

Jess hands over a small dog.

Jess: All his stuff is in here. (Hands over bag) I’m running a little late already so I have to get going. Tell your sister I said thanks.

Jess hurries to her car

Jess: I’ll be back tomorrow evening!

Cara stands there holding the dog, and looks down at him.

Cara
Forgot about you.

Bedroom

Gabby is sitting on her bed, texting and listening to music. There is a knock at her door. She looks up and Cara opens the door.

Gabby
Who said you can come in my room?

Cara
Your friend is here.

Cara tosses the dog’s bag onto Gabby’s lap. The dog rushes into the bedroom and jumps onto the bed next to Gabby.

Gabby
Hey boy!
She puts down her stuff and starts to play with the dog. Gabby then looks up at Cara with a more serious expression.

Gabby
You can shut the door.

The door closes.

Living room

Gabby is sitting on the couch watching television and eating junk food. Cara enters with the dog.

Cara
I’m not doing this for you!

She puts the dog in Gabby’s lap

Gabby
What?

Cara
He just peed all over my carpet. Walk him! And you haven’t fed him anything either (turns to leave the room). You volunteered, not me!

Gabby
(sighs)

EXT: Backyard

Gabby sits on the steps at the back door with her head resting in her hands while the dog walks around the yard. She follows him with her eyes.

Gabby
(sighs)

INT: Kitchen

Dog bowl full of food is set down on the floor.

INT: Bedroom - Early Morning

Dog jumps on Gabby and wakes her up. Gabby looks at him and he looks back eagerly. She picks up the dog’s harness, but seems confused about how it works, and tosses it over her shoulder.




EXT: Residence
Gabby walks out the front door and allows the dog to walk in front of her. They proceed to walk and, shortly after, the dog takes off running at full speed. Gabby starts running after him but can’t keep up.

Gabby
Max!

Within only a few seconds, she loses sight of the dog but continues to run.

INT: Bedroom - Morning

Gabby bursts into her Cara’s room. Cara jumps and looks at Gabby angrily.

Cara
What’s your problem?

Gabby
It’s not my fault. The dog just took off, and I don’t know where he went. I need your help.

Cara
You lost the dog? Do you realize that our parents are gonna blame me for this? (sighs) Come here.

Cara moves over to her desk and pulls out a sheet of paper. She draws the surrounding neighborhood streets with a marker. The drawing is hard to make out. She points to one side of the paper.

Cara
I’ll check everything on this side. You can check all of the yards over here, and we’ll meet in the middle.

EXT: Residence

The girls proceed to look under and around many objects outside. They call the dog’s name and knock on doors.

EXT: Neighborhood street -Morning

Meanwhile…
Max is walking happily about. He passes the girls but they don’t see him on the opposite side of the street as they are busy looking in other directions.

INT: Residence (Living Room)- Afternoon
Gabby and Cara walk in through the front door and look at each other.



Gabby
What are we gonna do?

EXT: Outside Residence
Max turns a corner and sees the girl’s home and proceeds to walk toward it.

INT: Living Room
Cara paces the floor while Gabby sits nervously. Cara stops and turns to Gabby.

Cara
Let’s go. It does no good just sitting around.

The both get up and head toward the front door.

Gabby
Maybe he’ll come back.

Cara
He doesn’t even know this neighborhood.

Cara pulls open the front door, and Max is sitting there waiting. He is very dirty. The girls look at each other with a happy sigh of relief.

INT: Bathroom
The girls wash the dog in the bathtub.

Gabby
Can we keep this a secret?

Cara
Never do this again and you’ve got a deal.

Gabby
(laughs)

INT: Living Room- Evening

Gabby and Cara play with the dog on the floor. The doorbell rings. Cara gets up to open it and Jess is there.

Jess
Hey I hope he wasn’t too much trouble.

Cara:
Here ya go.

Cara hands over the dog’s bag while Gabby puts on his harness. She walks Max over to the door and gives Jess the leash.

Gabby
No problem at all

Jess:
I owe you. Thanks

Jess leaves with her dog. From her car, she yells out

Jess
Hey do you want to watch him next week?


Gabby’s eyes widen and she enthusiastically opens her mouth, but Cara quickly covers it.
Cara
She’s busy that day!
They turn to enter home.

Gabby
I could’ve done it

Cara
(laughs) I just saved yours and that dog’s life.
